“Charter Treasurer is more than just an accounting firm. They truly care about the school, staff, and students that they serve. Cory and Joe are huge supporters of our school and program. They reach out at least once a week to check on us and ask if there is anything that we need. They anticipate our financial needs and provide excellent financial services to our school. We have already seen the positive impact Charter Treasurer has had on our school.”

FAQs
What makes Charter Treasurer different?
Charter Treasurer is 100% singularly focused on serving charter schools. Unlike many companies that offer broad tax and accounting services—with a small part of their business in the education market—handling charter school finances is Charter Treasurer’s entire priority.
In addition, Charter Treasurer takes a team-based approach to serving clients. By having multiple people involved in all aspects of operations, it allows for greater accuracy through built-in reviews and quality checks. At the same time, it creates better availability to our clients, ensuring someone will always be available day or night.
Simplicity is also a key differentiator. Instead of handwriting checks, maintaining large paper files, or distributing payroll manually, Charter Treasurer is 100% electronic. They utilize the latest technology to drive efficiency, service and reliability.
What is the purpose and mission behind the company?
For years, charter schools have dealt with numerous challenges when working with treasurers, including a small pool of licensed treasurers from which to choose, ever-present service and accuracy issues, and high turnover among treasurer firms.
That’s why Charter Treasurer founders Joe Crawfis and Cory Boruvka, who spent 20+ years doing finance, accounting and marketing in the corporate world, started the company. Their goal from the beginning was to offer an alternative in the charter school world, focused on establishing a long-term, reliable partner with personalized white-glove service.
Tell me more about the company’s founders Joe Crawfis and Cory Boruvka.
Joe and Cory met as freshmen at Kent State University in 1996. Both finance majors and involved in similar groups on campus, they later became roommates and eventually best men in each other’s weddings. After working separately in the corporate world for 20+ years, they came back together in 2020 when the idea of Charter Treasurer was born.
What’s the profile of a typical school?
Charter Treasurer works with schools that have as few as 25 students to those with hundreds. Regardless, most schools that switch to Charter Treasurer do so because they’ve experienced years of poor service, inadequate accuracy, and high treasurer turnover. They’re looking for stability, dependability and a long-term relationship to improve their fiscal operations.
How difficult is it to switch a school’s fiscal management to Charter Treasurer?
Typically, not hard at all for the school. Whether it’s a mid-year or fiscal year-end transition, Charter Treasurer does the bulk of the work to transition records and data. They collaborate directly with the prior treasurer to ease any burden on the school’s administrators, all while keeping the superintendent and board updated throughout the process.
What specific services do you offer?
Charter Treasurer looks at each school individually and customizes its services according to need. But in general, services cover the broad spectrum of all fiscal-related activities required to maintain a successful school. These include daily bill payments, bank account management, financial statement reporting, payroll and grant administration, budgeting, forecasting, audit support and 990 prep/filing.
Where do you provide services?
We are currently licensed as School Treasurers in the State of Ohio. Charter Treasurer works with schools throughout the entire state.
